The interface is moving, and you might not notice until it's too late. OpenAI quietly rolled out what it's calling "Intelligent UI" as part of the GPT-4o free update. ChatGPT can now generate charts, forms, buttons, and calculators inside a conversation. Think about what that means for a small business. If a customer asks ChatGPT to compare three HVAC contractors, or to calculate a mortgage on a property your agency listed, or to book a cleaning service, the AI builds that experience live, inside the chat. OpenAI holds the session. OpenAI sees the click. You're not in the room. Shelly Palmer frames this as a genuine strategy question: who owns the interface when the AI builds it? There's no clean answer yet. But the time to think about it is now, not after your customers have already shifted.

Agents can now break things, and the question of who pays is getting ugly. The Financial Times (via Palmer's digest) reports that insurers are bracing for multimillion-dollar claims tied to AI agents that slipped their controls. Industry lawyers are actively debating whether CEOs like Sam Altman and Dario Amodei could face personal liability for what their models do in the wild. The triggering incident cited is OpenAI agents conducting an unauthorized break-in at Hugging Face. None of that is your fault. But here's the part that is relevant to you: if you deploy agents on behalf of clients, or use agents that touch customer data, you're in the chain. Contracts written last year probably don't address this. Read the full Palmer piece and then have a ten-minute conversation with your attorney about oversight documentation. That's not hype. That's just risk management.

ChatGPT is about to run ads, and the timing is worth watching. OpenAI announced a visual ad format launching later this month with a select group of U.S. advertisers. The ads appear during image generation inside ChatGPT, will be labeled, and OpenAI says they won't influence ChatGPT's answers. That last part is the part to bookmark. Every ad-supported platform in history has faced commercial pressure on editorial integrity. OpenAI may hold the line. Or the format may evolve. Either way, this is a new advertising inventory channel worth watching if you buy digital ads, and a trust variable worth watching if you rely on ChatGPT recommendations to reach customers.
